Who are experts in the field of HIV/AIDS and human rights?

Delme Cupido

Delme Cupido is currently the Assistant Programme Manager in the HIV/AIDS Program of the Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa, focusing on interventions situated at the intersection of HIV, law, and human rights. Prior to that, he was the coordinator of the AIDS Law Unit of the Legal Assistance Center in Namibia, where he coordinated a team that provided direct legal services to clients and communities affected by HIV, conducted national, regional and international advocacy related to , in particular, access to treatment for PLWHA. He has been a human rights activist and public interest lawyer since 1998, and has worked in human rights and HIV since 2001.

Ralf Jürgens

Ralf Jürgens is one of the co-founders of the Canadian HIV/AIDS Legal Network and was its Executive Director from 1998 to November 2004. Since December 2004, he has worked as a consultant on HIV/AIDS, health, policy and human rights in Eastern Europe, Central Asia, Africa, and Canada for organizations such as the International HIV/AIDS Alliance, the OSI Public Health Program, WHO, UNAIDS, UNODC, UNDP, and the Canadian HIV/AIDS Legal Network. He is a member of, and provides the Secretariat to, the UNAIDS Reference Group on HIV and Human Rights. He is the author or many reports and more than 100 articles on legal, ethical and human rights issues related to HIV/AIDS, and has edited a number of journals on HIV and on prison issues. Past activities include: In 2005/2006, he co-chaired the "Policy Track" of the 2006 International AIDS Conference; from 2002 to June 2006, he was vice-president of the Board of CACTUS-Montréal; from June 1998 to June 2001, he was a member of the Canadian Ministerial Council on HIV/AIDS; from 1995 to September 2000, he was President of the Interagency Coalition on AIDS and Development (ICAD); and from 1992 to 1994 he was Project Coordinator of the Expert Committee on AIDS and Prisons, and taught the first course on AIDS and the Law ever to be offered at a Canadian university (McGill, Faculty of Law). He has a Master’s Degree in Law from McGill University, Montréal, Canada, and a doctorate in law from the University of Munich, Germany.
